Carmen de Zulueta embodied the spirit of Spanish institucionismo. Exile became her homeland right at the start of the Spanish Civil War. She worked as a teacher and lived most of her life in New York. From her house in the city she wrote her acclaimed monographs on the history of the Residencia de señoritas and of women’s education around the ILE.

Carmen de Zulueta encarnó durante toda su vida el espíritu institucionista. El exilio se convirtió en su patria desde el comienzo de la guerra civil. Se dedicó a la educación y vivió la mayor parte de su vida en Nueva York. Desde allí se convirtió en la gran historiadora de la Residencia de señoritas y la educación de la mujer en el mundo de la ILE.
CartasVivas are voices from history. They are snapshots of women’s memory. CartasVivas is a free-access online testimonial audiovisual library promoting knowledge acquisition and debate. This project recovers the private history of relevant thinkers through their words. It stems from the interest in getting to know women who played an important role in the 20th century or who actively lived the social and literary avant-garde in Spain or Latinamerica.
CartasVivas es una biblioteca audiovisual testimonial online gratuita para el conocimiento y el debate. Este proyecto recupera la historia íntima de pensadoras relevantes a través de sus testimonios. Nace de el interés por acercarnos a mujeres que jugaron un papel importante en el siglo XX o vivieron activamente el contexto social y literario en España o Latinoamérica.
